Check out our twitter feed to see who might be coming, and look out for top tips on how to prepare.
23rd October 2014
12-4pm
Sportspark

Students who have attended this event previously have found them incredibly useful- here’s what they had to say.

“Talking face to face with UEA graduates was really helpful!”

Look out for our insider insight cafĂ©, where you’ll be able to discuss your experience with graduates who’ve been where you are, and may be able to offer you guidance specific to you!

“Good to see faces from companies I’ve looked at already which previously felt a bit impersonal and scary”.

Meeting with a multinational employer is often intimidating. However, meeting a representative face to face can give you the confidence to make an application, and don’t forget, you’ll be able to follow up with the company if you exchange contact details. Your applications will be made stronger, especially if you’ve already built a relationship with the company.

“It is useful if you don’t know what to do after you graduate”

The Recruitment and Opportunities fair has something for everyone, from first to final years, whether you have an idea of the sector you’d like to go into before you go, or whether you’re just fishing for ideas. Remember to bring along a notebook, and jot down interesting ideas- you never know, there might be something amazing that you’ve never considered before.

Now, preparing the the Recruitment and Opportunities Fair is likely to be a way of making sure you have a successful and enjoyable day.

How to Prepare
Throughout October, we will be running preparation workshops, which you will be able to book onto using MyCareerCentral. They will help you identify organisations you’d like to meet with, how to approach them and the best way to follow up. Networking is one of the key business skills that you will need to develop- and there’s no time like the present! If you book onto a preparatory session, you’ll be in with a chance of winning a £50 amazon voucher- so book now

Key Questions
When you’ve decided whom you’d like to talk to, be sure to do some savvy internet research. Identify what the company’s aims are, and find out some of their key statistics. This means that when you go to talk, you’ll have some interesting and insightful questions ready to ask, which is likely to leave a lasting impression with the employer. Don’t forget to take a notepad, and note down any responses that you may wish to refer to in your follow up message.

Networking and Following Up
If you haven’t done so already, start thinking about getting business cards printed. List any relevant websites/blogs (making sure they’re work appropriate!) and make sure you collect their information too. Over half of the graduate job market isn’t formally advertised, and so you’ll need to start looking at other ways of connecting with an organisation.
After the event, as soon as possible, connect with any new contacts on LinkedIn and send follow up messages, personalised to them. You never know- you might be starting the dialogue that’ll launch your career.

Don’t forget, if you want to pop in and talk about the best options for you, our friendly front of house staff are always available and don’t forget to check out our preparation sessions on MyCareerCentral.

We look forwards to seeing you at the fair!
