Advice from the Directors of Master the Markets

UEA London based student networking society, Linked, hold a Breakfast Club meeting on the last Friday of every month during term time.  Careers & Employability help by inviting a 'guest'.  The guests have been a mixture, from owners of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to Chairpersons of large organisations.  With each guest the students get a chance to ask them about their careers, how they made the choices they did, what advice they would give to current students etc.  Recently we had Thiru and Rishi from Master The Markets join us - below is a summary of their key pieces of advice.
  • You need to have clarity and vision - know what you are passionate about.  When you talk about something you are passionate about people can see it in your eyes.  Passion and enthusiasm are addictive.
  •  Be clear about who you are
  • Love what you do!
  • Time is the most important commodity as death is the only certainty in life.
  • As soon as you get a problem, think of a solution.
  • When you dream big your mind expands.  Thoughts change the quality of your life.
  • If you've got an idea, just do it - don't wait for something to happen. Take up one idea and let that idea be your life!
  • Think about what are your best talents, what do you like to do, what are your natural skills
They spoke about Steve Jobs and suggested watching his famous 'Stamford Speech'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc

Thiru said that the two factors that will have the biggest influence on your life are

1) The books that you read
2) The people that you hang around with -they will define you as a person.

Some books they suggested reading were:

The Alchemist -Paulo Coelho
Rich Dad, Poor Dad - Robert Kiyosaki
Awaken the Giant - Tony Robbins

For those that are planning on starting their own business they suggested asking the following questions:
  1.  'What does the market want?
  2.  'Have you got an idea that you would run down Oxford Street shouting about?'
  3.   Have you got a solution that will help people and transform their lives?
You can find out more about 'Master the Markets', the company that Thiru and Rishi set up here. You may even be interested in working for them!  UEA are currently advertising a summer internship with Master the Markets.  See here for more details and how to apply.  Please note that this opportunity closes in two days time, 9th June!

Finally, if you are a current student at UEA London and would like to join 'Linked', please search for them on Facebook.
